On the sixteenth of June, 1904, an advertising canvasser named Leopold Bloom leaves his house in Dublin and does not return until very late. James Joyce's Ulysses follows him, and a scattering of other Dubliners, through the wholly unremarkable and endlessly remarkable hours of that one day.

What it's about

Loosely mapped onto the wanderings of Homer's Odysseus, the novel tracks Bloom across the city as he works, eats, mourns, daydreams, and quietly endures. His path crosses that of the young, grieving Stephen Dedalus, while at home his wife Molly waits with thoughts of her own. Each episode shifts style and register, so that the ordinary business of a day becomes an experiment in how prose can capture a mind in motion.
